Men, Suicidal Ideation & Systemic Barriers: A Lived Experience Workshop
Curtin University Building 400. Room 230
18:30 – 21:30
Curtin Allied Health Club presents: Male Suicide & Lived Experience: Equipping the Next Generation of Health and Humanity Male suicide is one of Australia’s most urgent public health challenges, particularly among fathers navigating separation and family breakdown. Yet the voices of men who have experienced suicidal ideation, crisis, and recovery are often absent from professional and community conversations.     In recognition of Suicide Prevention Month, this workshop provides a unique opportunity to learn directly from those with lived experience who now lead support initiatives. We are honoured to welcome: Pete Nicholls, CEO of Parents Beyond Breakup, a suicide prevention advocate and man with lived experience, leading one of Australia’s most respected support organisations for fathers in crisis. Mike Bush, WA's National Community Hub Manager at Parents Beyond Breakup, with lived experience and professional expertise in youth work, veterans’ support, and community recovery.   📍 Location: Curtin Public Health Building 400.230 📅 Date & Time: 6:30 pm- 9:30 pm    Why Attend? Hear first-hand stories of male suicide, crisis, and recovery. Understand the complexity of male suicide: separation, fatherhood, isolation, and systemic barriers. Learn how the legal, healthcare, and community systems have failed men, and how to provide real support and empowerment. Gain practical strategies to help men, whether in allied health, healthcare, or the broader community. Join an interactive Q&A, ask questions, and hear voices that are often unheard. Open to everyone, not just health students, for anyone who wants to make a difference      Who Should Attend: YOU!!! This workshop is designed for future and current health professionals, allied health students, and anyone who wants to better understand and support men at risk of suicide. Suicide prevention is not just a professional responsibility;  it is a human responsibility.     Tickets: CAH Club Members: $2.50 Non-Members: $5 All funds go directly to Parents Beyond Breakup, funding programs that support fathers, families, and communities in crisis. Like to donate but can't attend, Direct Donations   🍽 Bring Your Own Food: Feel free to bring snacks or a light meal to enjoy during the workshop Note: You don’t need to stay for the entire workshop to make an impact. Even attending part of the session and hearing from our speakers is incredibly valuable. Feel free to drop in or leave at any time; every moment you spend engaging with this important conversation contributes to raising awareness and supporting men at risk.
